Researcher’s GazePrinciples, Methods, and Practices
The monograph Researcher’s Gaze: Principles, Methods, and Practices was written to show undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers and everyone who needs methodological knowledge in the social and business sciences how a researcher thinks when designing a research plan. It is intended for those who research or work professionally in public health, gerontology, sociology, social psychology and organization.
The first part covers the strategies and processes for preparing, planning and carrying out quantitative and qualitative research in the social sciences. It starts with the philosophical foundations of research design and defines the relationship between qualitative, quantitative and mixed approaches, with an emphasis on the post-positivist worldview. The reader learns the difference between inductive and deductive approaches to establishing causality in social phenomena, which is central to planning the later stages of the research process.
The book then proposes research strategies for sound research design, introduces the basics of planning scientific and applied research and the particular demands of qualitative research, and explains the role of mixed methods in complex studies of social phenomena.
It is written for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students, young researchers, teachers of methodology, researchers, business and other analysts, and managers who do research to improve the quality of their decisions.
From the reviews
“The main contribution of the monograph is the focus on the practical use and interpretation of the developing of research processes rather than derivations. However, it explains what happens when researcher applies analytics and qualitative research methods to real world problems. Monograph systematically teaches the academic and other researchers from private and public sectors how to apply different research constructs, concepts, and model to the social science problems.”
“This monograph is different from the similar books in the market, because authors put together a structure that allows the reader to understand how particular concepts go together and make the big picture. Unlike other monographs it is not really about the research methods emphasising the statistical analytic approach. Monograph advances a framework, a process and compositional approaches for designing qualitative, quantitative and in some part mixed methods of research. The red tape in the book derives from the challenging role of the researcher in social and human sciences. This role connects traditional approaches, and qualitative and quantitative research that present mixed methods of research.”
